Silver Airways 2015 Service to Charleston International Airport July 11, 2021 By: Michael Gutta   On November 23, 2020, Silver Airways commenced flights from Charleston International Airport in South Carolina to three destinations in Florida: Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale. This service is actually the second time Silver has served the Charleston market, having previously served the airport for a brief period in 2015. So, what is different this time, and will the service work now coming out of the global pandemic? Two Silver Airways Saab 340b aircraft with registration N304AG and N344AG together on the tarmac at TPA on 12/12/2018 with the bald eagle SkyConnect passing by (Michael Gutta). To begin, it helps to first look back at the previous service offered in 2015. At the time of announcement, Silver said they would offer once-daily flights to Tampa (TPA) and twice-daily flights to Orlando (MCO). Throwback to  Planes of Fame Air Museum Arizona October 22, 2020 Michael Gutta For a little Throwback Thursday I decided to revisit a few photos I took while visiting the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Valle, Arizona back on November 5, 2013. This aircraft museum is located at the Valle Airport 30 miles south of Grand Canyon Village. During a family vacation touring several spots in Arizona we made a quick stop on the drive to Grand Canyon. There were and still are many aircraft in various states from flyable and restored to those that are neglected under the Arizona sun. Overall, it was a great way to spend an hour of time and $10 to see a variety of aircraft from the past. Below, I’ve highlighted four photos from this experience with a few details on each aircraft type. With a first flight in 1949, a total of 1,948 aircraft were built between 1950 and 1957 by N

COVID-19 Takes Its Toll On Delta Flagship Aircraft September 13, 2020 By: Michael Gutta   On May 14, 2020, the CEO of Delta Air Lines Ed Bastian made a shocking announcement due to the global coronavirus pandemic: the airline would retire its Boeing 777 fleet within a mere 8 months. The statement from the airline started by saying, “Delta plans to retire its 18 widebody Boeing 777s by the end of 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The retirement will accelerate the airline’s strategy to simplify and modernize its fleet, while continuing to operate newer, more cost-efficient aircraft.” There have been many aircraft put into storage and several aircraft type retirements for airlines around the world, but this has been the biggest fleet announcement for a United States airline. What makes this announcement even more surprising is that the Delta 777 fleet is only an average of 15 years old, and the whole fleet has been refitted since 2018 with the latest seats and cabin am

American Airlines Outlines October Service Cuts August 20, 2020 By: Michael Gutta American Airlines today announced the “temporary” suspension of service to 15 destinations beginning October 7 th , after the federal CARES Act financial agreement ends. As announced, this suspension of service would last through November 3 rd , but the resumption of service for many of these destinations would very much be in doubt beyond that date. American Eagle (Piedmont) ERJ-145 with registration N691AE at CLT lined up for takeoff on Runway 18C on 12/1/2019 (Michael Gutta) From the table below showing all 15 destinations, four cities being suspended currently have American service to multiple hubs: Joplin, New Haven, Roswell, and Sioux City. Rather than a reduction of service to a single hub, American has completely axed these destinations. After the service cuts go into effect, eight of these cities will have no airline service at all, 1 city will have only seasonal service by a commuter
